American Heart Association recommends increased potassium intake as a key hypertension treatment ( Hypertension: 2006; Vol.47, 296-308).
The American Heart Association (AHA) (Circulation 98(6):613-617, August 11, 1998) as well as the “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005” strongly recommend increased dietary amounts of the beneficial mineral nutrients potassium, calcium and magnesium, as well as a decreased dietary content of sodium as an effective measure to combat elevated blood pressure, also called hypertension.
In addition, the American Heart Association recommends plant sterols are as a first-line heart disease prevention therapy (Medical Post March 08, 2005 Volume 41 Issue 10).
